The goldfish is the world’s most popular ornamental fish. The ‘normal’ goldfish is easy to look after and happily lives in both aquariums and garden ponds. Certain bred and special types have particular requirements and can only be properly kept in an aquarium.
Goldfish are active creatures, which need plenty of space. Their aquariums should therefore never be overstocked. However, these sociable fish should also never be kept on their own.
Compared to other tropical fish, goldfish can get very big and very old. When properly cared for, goldfish can live for 20 or more years. If you provide your goldfish with optimum living conditions in your aquarium, you will be able to enjoy them for many years to come.
Goldfish like to bottom feed. As they can easily damage or even uproot aquatic plants when disturbing the substrate, artificial plants are commonly found in goldfish aquariums.
